Does anyone know what scenes were submitted for CM’s Emmy nomination? (The time he won, just to clarify, in case he’s been nominated more than the once.)
I’ve been thinking about Brian this morning. (Possibly because I’m considering including him in a follow-up to the story I just posted last night.) And I have some thoughts.
Caveat #1: I’m an OTP’er. It is the rare occasion that I ship any one of my OTP with anyone outside of it. I’m telling you this only because it might influence the way I view Brian.
Caveat #2: I’m basing my opinion on the sum total of, what, three scenes? (The ones from last Thursday and Friday, when Brian stepped back into Sonny’s life.)
In a nutshell, I think that Brian is an opportunistic, manipulative jerk.
Brian showed up just days after Sonny and Will broke up, probably the moment he heard about it, and took advantage of Sonny when he was vulnerable. Did Sonny know what he was doing when he kissed Brian back and left with him? Yes. Was he thinking clearly at the time? No.
Brian knows Sonny, knows that Sonny isn’t a casual sex kind of guy, and yet he tried to get Sonny into the sack while Sonny was still hurting over Will’s lies. Brian wasn’t trying to be Sonny’s friend, someone to talk to, he was on the prowl for rebound sex. He saw his chance and he took it. What was it he told Sonny? That he’d been waiting for this for so long? It was clearly not a real relationship with Sonny that he’d been waiting for, because instead of giving Sonny what Sonny needed, Brian was taking what ~he wanted.
Yes, Brian appeared to take Sonny’s change of mind with good grace, but he’d be unlikely to get another chance with Sonny if he acted like a diva. On top of which, he went and made sure that Will believed that the two of them spent quality naked time together. Not the actions of someone who has Sonny’s best interests at heart. Also, making Will think they’d slept together and rubbing his face in it was just a dick move. (Although it does lead me to believe that Brian isn’t as confident in his ability to seduce Sonny with Will still anywhere near the picture.)
Also, who wants to be the rebound? Rebound relationships never last. The fact that Brian reinserted himself so quickly into Sonny’s life after the break up, and the fact that he admitted that it wouldn’t be a bad thing if it was ‘just sex’, only strengthens my belief that Brian was only after sex and not a real relationship with Sonny.
I think Sonny was smart to say no, and I hope he continues to resist Brian’s advances.
